Concerts in the Diary!

Finally, some concerts in the diary… hopefully, no more COVID related cancellations! The Brass Foundry – February 13th The Brass Foundry was setup last summer as a group to explore the capabilities of a larger Symphonic Brass Ensemble, and to try out arrangements that it’s founder, Edward Solomon had completed during lock down. Initially, a rehearsal group but it gathered momentum with the naming of the group, and formalising group objectives and rehearsal schedule. Initially, due to debut as a…

Dates in the diary..

Have we just had our last free Thursday night (all brass bands I’ve ever played with, rehearsed on Thursday night..)? Well, until yesterday’s press conference by you know who, I was more positive, let’s see, its go go go for now. At Hitchin Band we will be back to Thursday night, socially distant rehearsals from May 20th. There have been a few small group out doors gatherings but they are not for me really. We did do (potentially) our final…

Time to say…

When people find out that both my wife, Helen and I are musicians, then find out we’re trumpet players, and then find out Helen is a professional singer, the next question usually is do we get to perform together often. Well, the answer is yes we do from time to time, in bands (wind band, brass band and occasionally orchestra if MrsQ gets time to write out the transpositions, typical brass bander…), but I rarely get the opportunity to be…

Isle of Man Choral Society

After years of being asked and having to turn it down due to brass band competition clash, I finally am available to attend and play for my father in law, Julian Power who conducts the Isle of Man Choral Society and The Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra for their major annual concert together. I was a regular member of the Manx Sinfonia (as they were known then) when I lived on the IOM, so expecting a few familiar faces. The…

For the final concert of the 2018 season, CLSW have engaged Paul Archibald as MD.  I played under Paul for the last few years at Regent Brass and am very much looking forward to this series of rehearsals and forthcoming concert. Again, the repertoire is a mix of music that I’m familiar with from the Brass Band world, and music new to me. Concert Program: Gregson – Festivio Grainger/Wilson – British Waterside Grainger/Wilson – The Cutting of the Hay Ellerby…

The feature picture above was taken at…

Corinthian Chamber Orchestra – St Martin in the Fields

For my first concert of 2018 I have been asked to play with the Corinthian Chamber Orchestra.  I played with them in December 2016 ago as a very last minute 3rd Trumpet in Sibelius 2, which was a really good concert. For this concert, I’m only involved in the one work, the Stravinsky Dances Concertantes. Corinthian Chamber Orchestra St Martin-in-the-Fields
