On Sunday 8th May I will be playing with the Philharmonia Britannica where the sole item on the program will be Shostakovich 7th Symphony. The Symphony is dedicated to the city of Leningrad as a symbol of the resistance shown by the residence during World War 2 and the siege of Leningrad in particular.
Requiring a large orchestra, with extra brass, it is a particularly exciting and demanding work to play. You can only imagine the effort required by the surviving members of the Leningrad Radio Orchestra for the premiere performance in 1942.
