The Bigg Theatre - Biggleswade
The Bigg Theatre – Biggleswade

The Bigg Theatre has recently opened in Biggleswade as community arts hub complete with a multiformat performance space, right in the heart of Biggleswade, giving life to one of the towns historic buildings.

The brainchild of a few performing arts and theatre professionals who live in Biggleswade, the ball got rolling during COVID lock downs where discussions started with the owners / leaseholders of the building to get access to transform the building. After many hours of renovations & decorating (MrsQ got involved with this too!) – the bar / coffee shop area opened first to smaller acts for a few months. During this time, the team continued to fundraise, apply for grants etc to fund the opening of the main performance space.

The quality of the performances I’ve attended so far has been top class. With venues struggling across the UK it’s great to have such a space on our doorstep.

A Time to Say

Howard and Helen have been singing together since 2007, performing at numerous events and concerts worldwide alongside their solo theatre careers. They have showcased their talent at The Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, St. David’s Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Cadogan Hall, and the O2 Arena, as well as other prestigious venues in Tokyo, Moscow, China, Brazil, and the United States.

Joining Howard and Helen will be Gaynor Smith (Piano) and David Quinlan (Trumpet) That’s me!!

As an amateur musician, it’s a great experience to work with top professionals like Helen and Howard, who have West End credits and have performed worldwide. I’ve had the pleasure of following and supporting Helen when working in places such as Florida, Tokyo, Sri Lanka, Toronto and many UK venues.

Time to Say - Rehearsal
A time to say…. rehearsal…

Performing in a small group of four is very creative and collaborative. It requires focus, teamwork, and empathy— valuable skills in all areas of life. We had a very enjoyable and productive rehearsal this week in the MAC in Birmingham, finalising the set list and arrangements.

This is different from my usual playing in a trumpet section of a symphony orchestra, band, or brass ensemble, so you have to be adaptable and not too loud all the time. I do however, get a chance to shine in a few of the numbers… 🙂
