I am delighted to announce that I will be riding in Ride London – Essex 2022 raising funds for Blood Cancer UK again. This is my 4th time participating in the event and my second time raising funds for Blood Cancer UK having been diagnosed the summer following my first ride.

I originally had a place on the pandemic Ride London – Surrey event which would have been on the “traditional course”. This years event sees the ride head out from Embankment, heading north west through Epping Forrest towards Stanstead area before looping back towards London finishing on Tower Bridge.

As I write this, it is 78 days to go to the event, so I suppose I should get my bike serviced and crank up the training.

I would be very grateful if you could find some money to donate. I know there is so much going on in the world and so many worthy causes. Blood Cancer UK fund research into blood cancer as well as offering information and support to those diagnosed. During the COVID pandemic, they also acted as a voice for the vulnerable as the rules and COVID landscape changed over time.

My Blood Cancer Journey started over 5 years ago, probably starting to feel the early effects around this time of year before being diagnosed in July 2018. The symptoms can be easily discounted (as I did) to having busy commuting lifestyle and being involved in various musical groups, heading off to rehearsals here and there. Ironically, it was declining performance and struggling when running (if it ain’t on Strava, it didn’t happen!) that prompted me to seek advice from my GP. I blogged periodically during my treatment and recovery if you wish to read.

Fundraising

I have setup a fundraising page here on JustGiving! If you can spare the price of a coffee or a pint (or more) I would be very grateful.

The event takes place on Sunday May 29th. My fundraising page is linked to my Strava account so you can (if you wish) follow my training progress. I will also post periodic updates here and fundraiser reminders!
